Hello everyone! I know it's already Wednesday and I usually put up a new blog every Monday but it's just that I've been really sick this past week so I wasn't able to put up one but I'm here now and it's better late than never. I would also like to give a shoutout to CHE who's been really following my blog for the past weeks, this blog post is dedicated to you. :p She's also the one who asked me if I could make a blog about hair care. So let's begin!
My hair has been really nice and soft these days and I wanna share with you guys what I do to achieve it. But to start of, I wanna tell you a little history about my hair. I enjoy changing my hair color when I was in the Philippines almost in a quarterly basis and I've also done so many rebonding sessions so just imagine how damaged my hair was. There was also a time when my hair got burned and it was just all kinky and dead because I went to a not so good salon and had it permed. I was so mad but what can I do, the damage has been done. But now that my hair has recovered from all that, these are the things that I do to keep it nice and healthy.
TIP #1 IF YOUR HAIR IS BADLY DAMAGED, HAVE IT TRIMMED AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH JUST SO YOU CAN GET RID OF THE DEAD PART AND SO YOU COULD START NEW.
This is no brainer, we all need to start with shampoo. But the question is, what brand or type of shampoo will you buy? There's like a gazillion brand of shampoo out in the market right now and it's up to you to make a trial and error and see which fits best for you. I've tried so many and it was just recently that I discovered this Herbal Essences Shine Collection Brilliance shampoo which is also silicone free. What I love about this shampoo is that since using this, like literally the first day I used it, I noticed less hair fall which is my major hair problem at the moment but what I've also noticed is that it didn't cause me breakouts. Yes, some shampoos for some reason gives me acne. So why buy something SILICONE FREE? What does silicone do to our hair? Silicone is a common synthetic product that is usually present in shampoo, conditioner and other hair products. What it does is that it coats the hair to make it appear silky smooth but it is something that cannot be washed by water so overtime it builds up to your strands and prevent moisture to penetrate causing to dry hair. So when looking for shampoo, always check for 0% Silicone.
TIP #2 SHAMPOOING EVERYDAY STRIPS THE NATURAL OILS OF YOUR HAIR. INSTEAD, TRY TO WASH IT EVERY OTHER DAY. LET THE NATURAL OILS OF YOUR HAIR DO IT'S MAGIC.
Next is condtioner. The one I have here is once again from Herbal Essences from their Shine Collection Brilliance which is also 0% Silicone. What I like about this conditioner is that it doesn't make my hair feel greasy at the end of the day because I have tried other conditioners that leaves my hair flat and it's just not so appealing. So in choosing the right conditioner, it also takes time because just like what I've been through, it took me so long before I was able to discover this so it's a challenge.
TIP #3 CONDITIONER CAN ALSO ACT AS A HAIR TREATMENT. AFTER SHAMPOOING YOUR HAIR APPLY YOUR CONDITIONER AND PUT A PLASTIC CAP ON AND LEAVE IT FOR 15 MINUTES. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PLASTIC CAP, USE A PLASTIC GROCERY BAG AND WRAP IT ON YOUR HEAD. BE CREATIVE. :)
This next step is very essential to every hair care routine because once that your hair is wet, you should pretty much avoid the regular brush because it can cause hair breakage. Did you know that your hair is more fragile when it's wet. Yes, it's a fact. But if you don't have a comb with big teeth like the one on the picture you can still detangle your hair by using your fingers. Let your hair sit for a little bit until it's not so wet anymore then you can use your normal brush. If your hair is really all tangled up, you can also use a detangler spray so that when you try to comb your hair, it'll go nice and smooth. I'm using this Ouchless Comb by Goody and it does the job well.
TIP #4 TRY USING LESS PRODUCT ON YOUR HAIR AS POSSIBLE. I KNOW THAT SOMETIMES IT'S TEMPTING TO BUY PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU SEE A FELLOW BLOGGER RAVING ABOUT IT BUT I BELIEVE THAT OUR SCALP/HAIR ALSO NEEDS TO BREATHE JUST LIKE OUR SKIN. OVERLOADING IT WITH SO MUCH UNNECESSARY HAIR PRODUCTS CAN CAUSE A LOT OF DAMAGE IN THE FUTURE. REMEMBER, PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
Air dry your hair as much as possible, we all know that using blower and other products that requires heat can highly damage your hair. So when you have the time like you're not going to work, school or just not going out, AIR DRY! That's the best advice that I can give. But if you're hair is still a little damp try using this Quikstyle Paddle Brush by Goody. It has super absorbent microfiber bristles that removes 30% of water as you style. I've been using this brush for more than 1 year now and it is still in good shape that's why I love using this brand because you really get the quality that you pay for. This brush looks really big but it's actually very light. I love it and I highly recommend it to everyone.
TIP #5 USE A BRUSH THAT HAS SOFT BRISTLES. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ALSO CLEAN IT ATLEAST EVERY MONTH COS SOME BRUSHES LIKE THE ONE ON THE PICTURE ABSORBS OIL AND IT CAN GET NASTY OVERTIME. JUST LIKE YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES, TREAT IT WITH LOVE AND CARE.
Next is this amazing product which is the Pequi Oil Treatment from Couture Colour that I got months ago from Ipsy. You only need so little of this so even after months of using this sample size, I still have a good amount left. I don't use this on a daily basis, I only put it when I need it. Whenever I feel like my hair is a bit coarse than usual then I put it at the ends of my hair. I think everyone needs a go to hair product like this one.
TIP #6 PUT OIL PRODUCT LIKE THIS TO YOUR HAIR AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK. ARGAN OIL IS SUCH A BIG HIT NOW, MAYBE YOU COULD GIVE IT A TRY.
6. Hair Treatment
Creamsilk has always been my favorite brand of hair treatment because it gives me a salon feel after every use. If you have damaged hair, I highly advice that you use a treatment like this every week to nurse back your hair to it's healthy state. It may sound like a chore and I know you might forget it and will not be consistent about it but if you really want that change to happen you have to be religious in doing this. Dedicate a day like the weekend to distress and pamper yourself because the more you wait, the more your hair is gonna get ugly. So start this week, give time to yourself and give your hair the care it needs. <3 It'll thank you in the future.
So that's it for this week's blog. I hope you guys learned something! :) Till next time.
